Play Dead Unleashes Fiery Protest With New Single ‘Thameslink’
Out now via Blitzcat Records.
London-based punk rock trio Play Dead is back to disrupt the status quo with their latest single ‘Thameslink’ released on January 16th via Blitzcat Records. The band, comprised of Joe Blair (vocals, guitar), Ollie Clarke (bass, backing vocals), and Elias Brewin (drums, percussion), delivers a raucous three-minute anthem that serves as a rebellious response to the frustrations of city life.
Described as "good pithy, punk rock" by Steve Lamacq of 6 Music, and embodying "an air of sweaty gigs, frustration at the world, and unbridled energy" according to Analogue Trash, Play Dead's newest release takes a bold stance against gentrification, overpriced pints, and the daily grind of the London commuter.
The garage punk motif of Play Dead shines through in ‘Thameslink’ drawing inspiration from the immediacy and wit of bands like Amyl and the Sniffers, The Chats, and early Arctic Monkeys. The track captures the essence of a high-energy live performance, transporting listeners to the chaotic floors of basement venues.
Singer Joe Blair sheds light on the inspiration behind ‘Thameslink’ stating “essentially nailed on after I paid about £7 for a pint at my local pub. So I guess it’s a bit of a diss-track on London - being fed up with the trains, the price of beer and the day-to-day habits of the miserable commuter…”
Play Dead initially gained attention with their cyclist-punching tale ‘Shaun’ and now, ‘Thameslink’ marks their first single since autumn 2022. The band has a busy tour and release schedule lined up for 2024, promising more high-energy performances and rebellious anthems to come.
Don't miss out on the rebellion of Play Dead – crank up ‘Thameslink’ and join the protest against the mundane struggles of urban life.
