Geordie Greep Drops New Single "Blues"

Geordie Greep (of black midi) Drops New Single "Blues" Ahead of Debut Solo Album 'The New Sound' out this Friday.

Geordie Greep, the enigmatic frontman and guitarist of black midi, has shared a new single titled "Blues" taken from his highly anticipated debut solo album, The New Sound, set for release on October 4th via Rough Trade Records. Along with the single, Greep has also unveiled a live video of "Blues," filmed recently at TV Eye in New York.

Following his work with black midi, known for their experimental and genre-blurring albums, Greep’s solo venture allows him to explore fresh creative terrain. The New Sound is an eclectic mix of alternative pop, rich with surprising jazz infused shifts and narratives filled with wit and dark humor. In a statement, Greep describes the album’s theme as one of "desperation," showcasing a character who deceives themselves into believing they have everything under control.

Drawing from over 30 session musicians and spanning two continents, Greep recorded parts of the album in São Paulo, Brazil, working with local musicians who hadn’t previously encountered his work. This spontaneity, combined with later sessions in London, has resulted in a truly vibrant sound.

The album’s tracklist features 11 songs, including "Blues," "Terra," and "Motorbike," each steeped in Greep’s signature storytelling style, blending surrealism with sharp social commentary.

Greep is also set to hit the road in support of The New Sound, with tour dates across Europe and North America, including two sold-out nights at London’s ICA.

The New Sound drops October 4th. Pre-order the album here.
