The Postal Service Release New Sylvan Esso Remix Ahead Of UK & EU Tour With Death Cab For Cutie

Sylvan Esso Remix drops ahead of UK & EU tour, featuring full performances of iconic 2003 albums.

The Postal Service has just dropped a fresh remix of their iconic track “The District Sleeps Alone Tonight,” reimagined by the electro-pop duo Sylvan Esso. This release, under Sub Pop, arrives ahead of the much-anticipated UK and EU leg of their 20th-anniversary co-headline tour with Death Cab for Cutie, kicking off tomorrow in Glasgow.

The Sylvan Esso remix brings a new energy to the beloved track from The Postal Service’s platinum-certified album Give Up. Jimmy Tamborello of The Postal Service expressed his excitement, stating, “I love Sylvan Esso and was excited to hear the song through their ears. It came out so good, big and tweaky and fun!” Sylvan Esso also shared their enthusiasm, reminiscing about the impact the original song had on them and calling the opportunity to reinterpret it “an honour.”

This remix sets the stage for the extended ‘Give Up Transatlanticism’ tour, which celebrates the 20th anniversaries of The Postal Service’s Give Up and Death Cab for Cutie’s Transatlanticism. Both albums, released in 2003 with a modest recording budget of $20k, have since become milestones in indie music, each earning RIAA Platinum certification.

The tour, which follows a wildly successful U.S. run earlier this year, will see Benjamin Gibbard pulling double duty, performing both albums in full. The U.S. tour sold out entirely, drawing over 250,000 fans to iconic venues like Madison Square Garden and the Hollywood Bowl. Now, fans across the UK and Europe have the chance to experience this unique musical event.

The upcoming tour dates include stops in Glasgow, Cardiff, Barcelona, Madrid, Lisbon, and a co-headline performance at London’s All Points East festival on August 25th. Support acts include Teenage Fanclub in Glasgow and Cardiff, and The Kills in Barcelona.

Reflecting on the significance of this anniversary tour, Gibbard said, “Few musicians have released two culture-shifting records in the span of a single year... These two records will be on my tombstone, and I’m totally fine with that.”

Both bands are expected to deliver unforgettable performances, continuing to captivate audiences with the same emotional resonance that has defined their careers.
