Geordie Greep, known for his role as guitarist and vocalist in the acclaimed experimental rock band black midi, has announced the release of his debut solo album, “The New Sound.” The album is set to drop on October 4th, 2024, and is available for pre-order now here. Alongside the album announcement, Greep has unveiled the first single, “Holy, Holy,” with an accompanying video directed by Ethan and Tom.

After captivating audiences worldwide with black midi's three critically acclaimed albums, including 2023's "Hellfire," Greep has ventured into new creative territory with "The New Sound." The album promises a fresh and eclectic mix of alternative pop, with Greep describing it as an exploration of “desperation.” He notes that the record embodies a narrator who believes they have control, but is slowly unraveling.

In a recent statement, Greep shared insights into the creative process behind the album, emphasising the freedom he felt while working on it. “With recording ‘The New Sound,’ it was the first time I had no one to answer to. Every impulse I had, I was able to completely follow through to its conclusion” he explained. The album was recorded across two continents, featuring over thirty session musicians from São Paulo and London. The collaborative nature of the project brought a diverse range of sounds and influences to the album, with tracks often re-recorded to capture the perfect vibe.

“The New Sound” is a vivid exploration of Greep’s musical and lyrical imagination. The album’s tracks take listeners through a journey filled with vivid imagery and unpredictable twists, from the urban fantasy of “Holy, Holy” to the sardonic “Motorbike,” which features bassist Seth ‘Shank’ Evans on vocals. Greep’s lyrics are as enigmatic as ever, drawing comparisons to the likes of Peter Hammill and Nat King Cole for their ability to convey complex emotions and narratives.

Greep is also set to embark on a worldwide tour in support of the album, kicking off in August 2024. The tour will span multiple continents, with stops in cities including New York, London, Paris, and Berlin.
