GUM Unveils Sparkling Cosmic Disco With New Solo Track 'Race To The Air'

Hot off the heels of a track with King Gizzard’s Ambrose Kenny, Jay Watson returns with 'Race To The Air'.

GUM, the multi-instrumentalist behind the indie rock acts Pond and touring member of Tame Impala, is back with a mesmerizing new solo track titled 'Race To The Air.' This sonic journey takes listeners on a cosmic disco adventure, combining robo grooves and quivering strings to create a celestial soundscape. Released as the first taste of his upcoming solo collection, this interplanetary craft of a song showcases GUM's undeniable talent and boundless creativity.

In his own words, GUM shares the inspiration behind the track, saying, “Race to the Air was originally called Running to The Cure. I have this memory of going to the toilet at Glastonbury and The Cure started their set by playing Plainsong, which is my favourite Cure song, so I was running from the portaloo to the stage. I couldn’t call a song Race To The Cure after COVID though, I didn’t want people to think I was making an album about the pandemic!”

Despite his commitments with Pond and Tame Impala, GUM has managed to release an impressive five studio albums since 2014. Jay Watson, the creative force behind GUM, has captivated audiences with his diverse sonic explorations, earning him the opportunity to perform as a special guest for artists such as Mac DeMarco, Mini Mansions, and Angel Olsen. His live shows, both in Australia and across the globe, have consistently drawn sold-out crowds and critical acclaim.

GUM's upcoming North American headline show in October is highly anticipated, giving fans the chance to witness his captivating musical prowess firsthand. The tour will take him to iconic venues, including Bowery Ballroom in New York, Lincoln Hall in Chicago, and the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco, among others.

Mark your calendars for the release of 'Race To The Air' on May 24th via Spinning Top Records, and stay tuned for GUM's forthcoming solo collection.
