Brighton Band SoftTop Releases Enthralling Indie Ballad 'Runaway'

'Runaway' is out today via Crafting Room Recordings.

Brighton-based indie band SoftTop has unveiled their latest single, 'Runaway', today, February 19th, via Crafting Room Recordings. Led by keyboardist and vocalist Miles Goodall, SoftTop consists of a seven-piece ensemble, featuring musicians and producers from various beloved Brighton acts such as Hutch, Ideal Living, and TINMAN. Despite their humble appearances, the band's sophomore single exudes ambition and creativity.

'Runaway' blends the melodic sensibilities of artists like Matt Maltese with the vibrant arrangements reminiscent of Grizzly Bear. The track begins with intimate R&B-tinged melodies, gradually building layers of orchestration before culminating in massed vocal harmonies and emotive drum patterns.

The song is part of a larger project inspired by Goodall's near-death experience, where he narrowly avoided a car accident in London. Reflecting on themes of loss and heartbreak, 'Runaway' serves as a poignant exploration of love and longing.

SoftTop, formed just last year, is already selling out local venues and organising charity events such as Mumfest, which raised funds for the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre. Crafting Room Recordings, helmed by Archie Sagers of ladylike, further supports the band's emergence into the spotlight.

To celebrate the release of 'Runaway', SoftTop will perform a special headline show at Brighton's Folklore Rooms on February 19th, with support from Martha Eve and Etienne. The band is also scheduled to perform at various live dates, including Lewes Con and The Prince Albert in Brighton.
