Welcome to the vitriolic world of Sniffany & The Nits.

Can you tell us who you are, where you’re from and about the music you ake?

I'm sister sniffany from sniffany & the nits otherwise known as jmke otherwise known as Josephine Edwards and I am from hove in the South of England and the kind of music I make is, I'd say... repetitive irritating, cutely tuneful punk music with me as the singer.

What encouraged you to start your own band?

I've been going to DIY shows for a long time since I was a teenager and I was always jealous of other people who could play music because I drew pictures instead, so one day we were at the pub and I said wouldn't I be a good singer in a punk band? and luckily my friends went along with it

Could you tell us a bit about the background of your band name?

The name was made at the same time as we organised the first practise in the pub and my friend Katy just said why don't you be called sniffany and the nits? I have a zine of my Comics called Sister sniffany's chamber pot just because I think that sniffany is the snobbiest sounding name there is and the nits because I have a very evil comic called nits as well, so I guess I'm basically all over everything…

If you were to describe your sound to someone who’d never heard you before, what would you say?

Loud Beano Style cartoon music.

Can you tell us more about how you produce your music?

I am the girl so I am not involved in that process.

What advice would you give for anyone trying to achieve a similar sound to your music?

I would say back off and don't even try it comes from a lifetime of being myself which simply cannot be taught so I reckon go home look in the mirror and figure out whole you are before trying to step on my turf cheers

What inspired you to write the Single “Chicken Liver”?

That song is about unfortunately the evil feelings that people get with a other women for being better looking or thin or or you know feeling like the their competition to them so it's meant to be you from the point of view of someone who isn't very nice who's being extremely horrible to some poor innocent person.

Name an album you’re still listening to from when you were younger and why it’s important to you?

Exit Everything by Rowland s Howard because he is very underappreciated and forgotten about and he's far better at songwriting than Nick Cave but no one cares about him even though his songs are so sad ... he's got a really funny nasally voice too and he's the best guitar player in the world. no one really cares and I would always listen to his album over and over again in the bath when I was a teenager . I think it was recommended to me by the Horrors as I was a super fan that followed them around the country so that was something good that came out of it.

What do you love right now?

The band doll house from New York and watering the garden and jam doughnuts

What do you hate right now?

Camping at festivals, my skin peeling off from being burnt and working in a coffee shop.

Are you writing new music at the moment?

There’s a lot of instrumentals but lyrics are a bit slower, I was heartbroken before and now I’m chilling out. I am happy to enjoy my life which sometimes isn’t awesome for art that means something.

Is there any new music from 2022 you have been enjoying?

I Like Holiday Ghosts, suep, Warthog, Memorabilia and Findom

What was the best gig you guys ever played and why?

The one at latitude was very special recently where there was a young person in the front row with green hair and a siouxsie and the banshees T-shirt who knew every single word which has never happened before, I was absolutely over the moon.

Where do you see your band one year from now?

I Know this isn't what I'm meant to think, but honestly my dream would be finding a way to make a bit of cash off my art for once!

What is it like working with PRAH Recordings?

Stephen rocks I think he's absolutely great, it's nice that he cares, I never expected anything to happen with this band.
