Soft-spoken songs that feel like a warm embrace.

Inspired by Elliot Smith and Leonard Cohen, Allegra Krieger writes heart-moving songs. Perfect soundtracks to staring at fleeting sunsets, sipping wine straight from the bottle and perhaps shedding a single tear. Even though there’s a sense of loneliness and melancholia to her art, it’s also strangely comforting. The thought that someone else has stood in front of an empty space before, not knowing what to make of it, is like a tap on the shoulder. To the ethereal sound of strings, glass-like fragile piano notes and power-hosting vocals. Allegra Krieger always fills the void with excitement and wonder.

Can you tell us who you are, where you’re from and about the music you make?

I’m Allegra Krieger- I grew up between Florida and Pennsylvania, and currently live in new york. I mostly write lyric forward songs on the guitar and piano.

How are you feeling about the release of your new album ‘Precious Thing’?

Grateful and excited.

Can you tell us more about the themes behind your new record?

I would say this album is threaded by themes of loss, introspection, routine, desire, and observation.

Can you tell us more about how you produce your music?

This album was produced with Luke Temple over a week in West Narin, CA. I went into the studio and recorded the bones for the record (voice, guitar, piano) on the first two days, and then we added onto that, with a myriad of other instruments and sounds with engineer Jeremy Harris and my bass player Rob Taylor. Luke is really brilliant and exciting to work with-he comes up with ideas, where your initial response might be like “what?” and then it ends up sounding really unique. It was also just an incredibly fun and open session, I laughed a lot.

How do you feel you have grown as an artist since your debut album?

I trust myself in the creative process in a way I never used to. I think, when I was younger I really doubted my ability and capacity to make things, so I was always at the whim of other people’s responses/reactions. Now, I focus more on honest expression.  I think honesty in art carries a certain composure and integrity, and I try to be mindful of that when I’m writing.

We love the music video for your single Taking It In. How involved were you in the making of the video?

I went to coney island with my friends Melissa, Samuel & Koa and they all had their own cameras and filmed everything. We pieced it together over a night of red wine, with Koa on the editing side of things.  It felt pretty effortless- it’s like a little documentation of that day. I’m grateful for the memory.

Can you tell us something interesting about yourself that doesn’t have anything to do with music?

I used to work as a tree planter around northern Georgia and South Carolina. We lived out of our tents and would shower at truck stops. I have so many strange memories from that period of my life.

What advice would you give for anyone trying to achieve a similar sound to you?

I don’t know- listen to Leonard Cohen & watch reality TV?

What’s it like working with Northern Spy?

It’s great to have their support, and to be on a label with so many inspiring artists.

If your music were a film or TV show which would it be?

I don’t think I have an answer to that.

Name an album you’re still listening to from when you were younger and why it’s important to you?

Elliott Smith’s Either/Or. It’s absurd how often I listen to it. It was one of the first records I ever purchased for myself- completely chosen at random from this record store in west reading, PA.  There’s so much nuance to this album, and it’s grown with me a lot.

What do you hate right now?

The global pandemic

What do you love right now?

The block I live on.

What comes next in the Allegra Krieger story?

Who knows!

Is there anything else you would like to share with our readers?

Thanks for listening & reading & pre-order the album :)
