Start Listening To: Muck Spreader

Muck Spreader get weird in this colourful interview, fresh off the back of Abysmal.

For those unfamiliar with your music, can you tell us who you are, where you’re from, and a little bit about the music that you make?

We come from the fiery pits of the ocean; our music is like a hyena crunching through the bones of a child.

What is your songwriting process like?

A group of giant gulls seeking an opportune moment to seize the greasy delights you’re currently gorging yourself on.

Who would you say are your biggest musical influences?

The exhaust on a Ford Cortina left sitting in sewage on a Derbyshire farm attempting to be started for the first time in aeons.

What kind of music have each of you been listening to recently?

Tibetan bowl healing/Sadhguru and always Gorgers.

Recent single ‘Take Flight’ has a stylishly moody atmosphere, can we expect more of this with future releases?

You can expect whatever you like but expectations more often than not lead to disappointment and we never disappoint.

Would you say that there’s a political streak throughout your work? How significant would you say the politics of a given track are in crafting the track at large?

I think if you have a platform and voice that it’s vital you use it for positivity and rebellion.

‘Would He’ has a fascinatingly good weird music video, what went into that? Where did the ideas come from and how did you film it?

A man bites dog, the man has few teeth sharp enough to pierce skin. The dog doesn’t react nor does he realise his superior intellect and suitability to biting.

Where did the band name come from? Any fun origin story behind being a bunch of Muck Spreaders?

It was whispered to Papa Jim as he stoked the fires of his immaculate kiln. Late on a Wednesday morning not far in date from a solstice.

When you inevitably release an album, what should we be expecting from it?

A strangled kangaroo hogtied nude, face down in a murky puddle.

What do you love most right now?

It’s strangely satisfying — the soothing churn of the constant trains rattling my cage

Now that things are easing up around the world, do you have any particular plans for live shows?

You tell us. We’ll play any weird or unconventional space we have the chance to.

Tell us what else we should be excited about from Muck Spreader in the future.

The possibility of a breakaway community in the outer Hebrides.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Long live Stanley Beanz.
