Tkay Maidza Unleashes Empowering New Single 'Silent Assassin'
With Flume on production, you know this is going to be a banger.
Australian artist Tkay Maidza has just dropped her latest single 'Silent Assassin,' produced by renowned fellow Australian musician Flume. This powerful track is an anthem of self-empowerment and self-confidence, with Tkay delivering caustic rap verses over Flume's earth-shuddering beats. The song serves as a reminder that despite her quiet demeanor, Tkay is a force to be reckoned with, evolving and coming back stronger than ever.
"I like to move in silence, but this song is a reminder that people shouldn't underestimate my abilities," Tkay explains. "They should be afraid when I'm quiet because that's when I come back more evolved." She expresses her excitement about collaborating with Flume and reveals that she aimed to channel the energy of Busta Rhymes and Missy Elliot in this track.
The official music video for 'Silent Assassin,' directed by Milo Lee, features Tkay in a desert setting, ready for battle. The visuals perfectly capture the fierce and determined spirit of the song.
'Silent Assassin' is the follow-up to Tkay's festive single 'Nights In December' released last year. Her 2021 EP, Last Year Was Weird, Vol. 3, marked the culmination of a three-year-long trilogy, consisting of 24 genre-bending tracks that explore Tkay's African-Australian experience. The Last Year Was Weird trilogy earned her the prestigious 2021 ARIA Award for Best Soul/R&B Release and the NME Award for Best Solo Act from Australia in 2022. Currently, Tkay is working on her upcoming album, the highly anticipated follow-up to her 2016 debut, 'Tkay.'
Tkay Maidza, originally from Zimbabwe but raised in Australia and currently based in Los Angeles, will be returning to her home country next month. She is set to perform at the Splendour In The Grass festival and will also join Lizzo on several live dates.
