Sleaford Mods and Hot Chip Collaborate on Charity Singles for War Child

Nom Nom Nom and Cat Burglar offer a tantalising glimpse of the creative synergy between these two exceptional bands, leaving us yearning for a full-length collaborative album.

Sleaford Mods and Hot Chip have joined forces to create a two-track single, Nom Nom Nom and Cat Burglar, recorded during an Abbey Road Lock In Session. The collaborative release will be available on November 26 via Friendly Records, with all proceeds going to War Child. The single will be released digitally and as a limited seven-inch vinyl, featuring artwork designed by renowned British artist David Shrigley.

The tracks emerged from an improvisational session at Abbey Road Studios, part of an initiative that pairs artists to produce unique creations in a single day. The result is a seamless blend of the two bands' distinct styles: Nom Nom Nom is a suave yet edgy track, while Cat Burglar offers a quirky mix of prog rock and humour.

“On the day, we went in cold and just handed ourselves over to it,” explained Sleaford Mods' Jason Williamson. “Nom Nom Nom is a continuation of our album UK GRIM, while Cat Burglar is a weird jam exploring modern human experience.” Hot Chip called the collaboration a "free and encouraging exchange of ideas," adding that the tracks were written and recorded in just hours.

The vinyl pressing is limited to 1,000 copies, with 900 available in transparent yellow and 100 in a special-edition red, sold exclusively at Friendly Records in Bristol.

War Child expressed gratitude for the artists' support: “The world is more dangerous than ever for children affected by conflict. The generosity of Sleaford Mods, Hot Chip, and David Shrigley helps us deliver life-saving aid and mental health support to vulnerable children.”

Abbey Road’s Lock In Sessions continue to foster creative collaborations, with Head of Brand Mark Robertson praising this project as “something truly unique, blending the signatures of both bands while creating something vibrant and essential.”

The behind-the-scenes film of the session is available to watch now on Abbey Road Studios’ YouTube channel, offering fans an intimate look at the creative process.
