Maruja Unleash Explosive New Single 'Zeitgeist' Ahead Of Tour

Manchester-based band's break-beat punk and cosmic jazz will leave audiences reeling.

Manchester-based band Maruja is set to kick off their UK and EU tour this May with their explosive new single, "Zeitgeist." The track is a wild combination of break-beat punk and cosmic jazz that features an anxious saxophone stutter and an earth-scorching thunderclap. The song is the most concise formulation yet of Maruja's hellish ambitions, laden with doom and fearsome cathartic release.

The band explains their thoughts on Zeitgeist here: “The energy is reminiscent of acts like Rage Against The Machine and Prodigy. This is the track we open our live sets with and it’s all of us going full pelt for 3 minutes. It’s our most unapologetic, in your face track to date which shocks every listener into paying full attention.”

Maruja is made up of vocalist and guitarist Harry Wilkinson, drummer Jacob Hayes, bassist Matt Buonaccorsi, and saxophonist Joe Carroll, whose convergence creates the intense, unflinching nuance of the band's call. Despite self-releasing all of their material, Maruja has seen radio coverage from BBC Radio 6 and has amassed over 1 million streams. Their debut EP, "Knocknarea," released in March, is currently ranked as Rate Your Music's #1 EP of 2023.

The band has been championed by indie giants NME, So Young, Loud & Quiet, God Is In The TV, Hard of Hearing, and Wax Music. They have also played at Left of the Dial and Manchester Psych Fest and secured support slots for Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, Opus Kink, Talk Show, Honeyglaze, The Lounge Society, L.A. Witch, and Enola Gay.
