lilo Share New Video For ‘Just A Thought’

lilo captures the spirit of a generation in uncertain times.

Indie duo lilo, comprised of Christie Gardner and Helen Dixon, has come a long way since their school days in Winchester. With a friendship spanning over a decade, the pair established lilo shortly after meeting at the age of 11 and embarked on a musical journey together. Beginning with homemade recordings and covers on YouTube, their talent and creative bond only grew stronger when they relocated to London in their late teens.

Drawing inspiration from alt-folk and classic country, lilo showcased remarkable maturity and skill with their debut EP, "Sleep Country," released under Practise Music. Their deep understanding of Americana-influenced folk's rich history sets them apart from their contemporaries, as noted by Loud & Quiet in a recent interview. Their music captures the essence of Emmylou Harris' heartfelt expression and the flawless vocal prowess reminiscent of Karen Carpenter.

Now firmly in their stride, lilo is set to release their new EP, "I Don't Like My Chances On The Outside," under Dalliance Recordings. The EP masterfully balances delicate moments with uplifting pop melodies, supported by a full-bodied band sound. The lyrics of their songs resonate with their generation, encapsulating the feelings of panic, anxiety, and love experienced by twenty-somethings during times of great uncertainty.

In anticipation of the EP's vinyl release this Friday, lilo is treating fans to a captivating new music video for their single "Just a Thought." Described as "witchy," the video portrays a cautionary tale where the band futilely tries to warn a friend about a toxic relationship. The pleas of "It's your hill to die on" fall on deaf ears, escalating the narrative to a more vengeful level in the visually stunning video.

Explaining the concept behind the video, lilo shared,Speaking of the video, they said, “Inspired by a ‘Chicken Cinema’ video idea we’ve had for so long it had started to become lilo lore. Having seen several iterations until we settled on it being a revenge fantasy - the chicken representing the body of a person who has wronged us and the cinema their funeral venue. A bit of a caricature where we play witches, filming was fun for the first hour and biting into a fake heart felt like the ultimate gothic nightmare. However, for the rest of the day, covered in treacle and red food colouring, it was quite unbearable. We had hoped that it might be an uncomfortable watch, but the Hello Mary team have truly made it more disgusting than we ever could have wished for.”
