Green Man Festival 2024: A Sold-Out Extravaganza in the Heart of Wales

Celebrating music, culture, and community in the stunning Bannau Brycheiniog National Park.

Green Man Festival has once again captivated music lovers as it announces its stellar 2024 lineup. Set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park, this year's festival, taking place from August 15th to 18th, promises an unforgettable experience with headliners Big Thief, Sampha, Jon Hopkins, and Sleaford Mods leading the charge. Tickets sold out in just two hours back in September, a testament to the festival’s growing allure.

Headliners Big Thief, fresh from bassist Buck Meek’s standout performance last year, will grace the Mountain Stage. Joining them is South London’s Sampha, marking his largest UK festival headline slot to date, and electronic maestro Jon Hopkins, whose return promises a visual and sonic feast. Post-punk legends Sleaford Mods will take the Far Out stage, ensuring an electrifying start to the festival.

The lineup also boasts a diverse range of artists including The Jesus and Mary Chain, Ezra Collective, Arlo Parks, Blonde Redhead, Julia Holter, Moonchild Sanelly, and many more, each bringing their unique sound to the Welsh mountains.

Green Man is renowned for its holistic approach to the festival experience. Spread across 10 distinct areas, attendees can explore art installations, a beer and cider tent featuring local brews, and family-friendly zones. Einstein’s Garden will engage curious minds with science-themed activities, while teens can enjoy dedicated spaces for relaxation and workshops.

The festival also embraces local culture through the Settler’s Pass, allowing early arrivals to enjoy a week of discounted access to Welsh heritage sites, galleries, and castles.

Green Man continues to receive glowing reviews from critics. NME describes it as “still an understated triumph of the festival season,” while The Guardian praises its “subtle evolution” and deep integration into the Powys landscape. The Times and The Independent also highlight its unique charm and enduring appeal.

As Wales’ largest contemporary music festival, Green Man not only brings economic benefits, generating £10 million annually, but also stands out for its commitment to inclusivity and sustainability. It remains one of the few large independent festivals in the UK, with a strong focus on supporting new talent and local businesses.

Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the Green Man Trust continues to extend the festival’s mission of fostering talent and addressing social issues. Since its inception, the trust has supported over 12,000 people, donated significant funds to food banks and relief efforts, and launched numerous community projects. This year, the trust introduced a £20,000 Community Grant aimed at promoting inclusiveness and wellness in local communities.

With a reputation for blending musical innovation with cultural richness, Green Man Festival 2024 is set to be another landmark event. As the festival enters its third decade, it remains a beacon of creative and community spirit, firmly rooted in the heart of Wales.
