Gig Review: Ty Segall At The Roundhouse
Ty Segall brought his chops to the Roundhouse the other day. His first time in London for some time now.
It's a real shame, and I don't like admitting that I didn't think it was an exciting show. But it wasn't, for me. Guitar solo after guitar solo, impressive nonetheless but not for me (I DO know that this is a signature trait when it comes to Ty Segall, and its sick, I just dont think it sat well at this particular show). I cant help but think the energy from the band was off, not very exciting. And the crowd; lots of chin scratching and slow bopping of heads.
Ty is an incredible songwriter, and some of his work in the studio would be up there with some of the most innovative, creative and inspiring stuff I've ever heard. He's been an inspiration to me many a time, with a discography so huge and every record being different from the last, it's impossible for it not to be inspiring. The first time I heard the title track 'Manipulator' from the album released in 2014 I almost shat myself. That song paints such a vivid picture in my head and makes me feel good every time.
Which is why it bothers me so much to admit that I just didn't have a good time at the Roundhouse on the 28th, especially when there's a bunch of fucking great musicians doing the thing.
I will 100% be revisiting a Ty Segall show sometime in the future because I just simply need to have a good time at one, and I know that's not a hard thing to achieve.
Maybe someone shat in my weetabix that morning, but I don't remember. You can stream Ty's latest endeavor, 'Three Bells' on all the major platforms.
