Ethereal Pop Duo Strange Boy Reveals Debut Album 'Love Remains'
London-based experimental pop duo unveils a tale of love and artistry.
London-based experimental pop sensation, Strange Boy, is poised to enchant listeners with their much-anticipated debut album Love Remains scheduled for release on 1st March 2024 via Groenland Records. The ethereal duo, comprised of Kieran Brunt and Matt Huxley, gives us a taste of their upcoming debut with their enchanting new single ‘Boston Blue Period’.
As the opening notes of 'Boston Blue Period' gracefully unfurl, gossamer keys give way to pad synths, electronic drums, and a lush, yet unsettling string arrangement. Over the course of two and a half minutes, the arrangement builds, creating an atmospheric backdrop that gradually recedes, unveiling Kieran Brunt's evocative vocals as he spins a tale of release and renewal.
Reflecting on the single's inspiration, Brunt shares“The song is a little fictional vignette I came up with when I visited Boston some years ago. I went to the Harvard Art Museum and came across a Picasso painting from his 'Blue Period', and then did a very long walk down to the ICA gallery in Boston. I get lots of ideas for songs in art galleries, and wrote the lyrics while wandering round a photography exhibition.”
'Strange Boy' consists of eleven enchanting tracks that have been cultivated over the years since the duo's serendipitous meeting during a Glastonbury night out in 2011. Bonded by their mutual admiration for Joanna Newsom, Kieran Brunt and Matt Huxley's creative partnership solidified when they both relocated to London after completing university.
The duo masterfully combines compelling storytelling with grand symbolism, resulting in a collection of impressionistic songs that thrive. As Strange Boy, Brunt and Huxley have meticulously crafted a sonorous world that beckons listeners into communion—with both themselves and the ethereal.
