Cornelia Murr Announces New Six Track EP ‘Corridor’
On her upcoming EP, Cornelia Murr pushes her Fantasia-folk aesthetic into the dream-pop realms; here, we hear Beach House's ethereality combined with the lyrical intimacy of Angel Olsen.
The opening lines of Cornelia Murr's Corridor EP tell of lovely, wide-open vistas and landscapes emerging in sunlight while glistening with the calm of dawn-break. The Los Angeles-based musician's follow-up to 2018 debut Lake Tear of the Clouds finds her edging her Americana-tinged Fantasia-folk sound pallet towards the flimsier reaches of dream-pop: like the ethereality of Beach House wedded with the harsh intimacies of Phoebe Bridgers.
Corridor's pores are permeated with omnichord sparkles, Mellotron swathes, and delicate 12-string guitar picking. The songs themselves thoughtfully reflect on human romanticism; the dangers of relationships and acceptance of the past serving as some of the EP's main themes, even yet Murr's sound is richer here than on any previous recording. Murr so tenderly embraces the classic pop axiom of the bitter and the sweet in single Changed.
Murr's captivating singing, which is pearly and soulful and imprinted with a hard-won knowledge earned only through those gruelling passages of time, enriches Corridor more than anything else. Murr is more than happy to let us observe the inner workings of her life and reveal the rawness of her emotions, whether it's through the wallflower anthemia of "Hero" and "Changed," the ivory-tinkling privacies of "Again," or even "It's Over," a song that turns the experience of eating an unripe White Sapote fruit into a profound "lesson in nourishment."
Murr’s new album 6 track EP out 25th Nov via Full Time Hobby.
