Cigarettes After Sex Announce New Album and Worldwide Tour

Indie sensations Cigarettes After Sex have just dropped exciting news for fans worldwide, announcing the release of their album, "X's," later this year, along with a massive global tour. The band's third LP is set to release on July 12th 2024 via Partisan Records, promising a collection of raw, emotive tracks that delve deep into the complexities of love and loss.

The album, according to frontman Greg Gonzalez, marks a departure from their previous sonic influences of the '50s and '60s, embracing a '70s/'80s slow dance vibe. While staying true to classic pop structures, the band injects a ‘disco-ball refracted tears’ energy into the mix, creating a unique and captivating sound.

The central theme for the record is a single relationship that spanned four years; Gonzalez reflects on the intensity of the experience, stating, “the record feels brutal. I could sit and talk about this loss to someone, but that wouldn’t scratch the surface. I have to really write about it, sing about it, have the music, and then I can start to analyse and learn from it."

The announcement comes alongside the release of the album's first single, "Tejano Blue". Gonzalez describes the track as a nod to his Texas childhood, blending influences of Tejano music with the atmospheric sounds of Cocteau Twins. The result is a vibrant and memorable addition to the band's repertoire of sensual, timeless love songs.

If this isn’t enough, Cigarettes After Sex are gearing up for a world tour, with dates at major arenas including Madison Square Garden in New York and London's O2 Arena. Additional tour dates in Korea, India, Singapore, UAE, Taiwan, and South America are expected to be revealed soon.

As the band embarks on this global journey, it's worth noting their impressive rise in the music industry. With 23 million monthly Spotify listeners and music used over 6.4 billion times on TikTok, Cigarettes After Sex are a dream-pop powerhouse despite maintaining a mysterious and enigmatic presence; we are still yet to see a music video, or even any colour in their artwork. Could this be the resistance to the cult of the celebrity and the proliferation of worrying parasocial relationships that the music industry needs?
