Brighton Music Compilation Showcases The Best Of DIY Scene

Crafting Room Recordings unveils Brighton Compilation: A multifaceted ode to the city’s music scene.

Crafting Room Recordings, an independent label with roots in Wiltshire and a heart in Brighton, is set to release an enthralling new cassette compilation titled "Brighton Compilation" on September 8th. This anthology serves as a testament to the remarkable musical diversity flourishing within Brighton's indie music scene, all while contributing to a noble cause. All proceeds from the compilation will go towards supporting 'Audio Active’ a local charity dedicated to nurturing musical programs for underprivileged youth.

Assembling an eclectic array of DIY musicians spanning various genres, this compilation is a reflection of Brighton's artistic landscape. With an emphasis on Dream Pop, Indie Rock, and Post-Punk, Crafting Room Recordings has brought together an impressive lineup of talented artists who are shaping the musical landscape of this coastal city.

The label's founder, Archie Sagers, a musician and artist in his own right, is committed to the not-for-profit ethos. Crafting Room Recordings is more than just a label; it's a platform for artists to release their music on their own terms. The label is dedicated to transparency and supporting its artists, with 50% of the profits going directly to the artists, while the remainder is reinvested in the label or donated to local charitable causes.

The compilation's tracklist features an array of standout acts, each bringing their unique sonic tapestry to the project. Hutch, known for their twang-pop post yacht-rock sound, has been making waves since their debut single release in 2022, earning praise from critics and BBC Introducing alike. Their track "Mechanical Bull" offers a taste of their effortless performance style that has garnered comparisons to Fleetwood Mac.

Welly, a post-punk/pop sensation, captured attention with their energetic live shows and danceable tunes. Their single "Take 5" captures the essence of their electrifying performances that have taken them across the UK and even to European stages.

Nil by Habit, an Alt Rock outfit known for their bone-rattling post-punk sound, is a Brighton-based gem that has solidified its presence in the local gig scene. Their track "John Cusack" showcases their sinewy grunge-flecked art noise, embodying the spirit of the city.

ELLiS·D, a solo artist and multi-instrumentalist, marks a departure from DIY recordings with his track "Straitjacket Blues." Collaborating with producer Shuta Shinoda (Hot Chip, Jenny Beth), ELLiS·D's dynamic sound draws influences from the likes of David Byrne and Cate Le Bon, delivering a frenzied live performance that resonates with audiences.

Congratulations, a band formed from four friends, effortlessly blends influences into their songs, resulting in a sound reminiscent of Pom Poko, Jockstrap, and Sleigh Bells. Their vibrant energy and meticulous approach to production shine through in their track "Kryptonite."

Flip Top Head, a seven-piece orchestral post-rock band, paints evocative soundscapes in their debut single "Seventh Bell Number." Their blend of jazz tones and haunting vocals creates a unique sonic experience that resonates deeply.

LadyLike, a four-piece outfit known for their krautrock-inspired rhythms and post-punk experimentation, presents "Motorcar Racing." Their distinctive dream wave new gaze sound merges dissonant melodies with angular bass lines and forceful rhythms.

The compilation also features tracks from Trip Westerns, Tinman, Martha Eve, Maximilian, DLD, Slimy Bench, Safety Jacket, and more. Each artist contributes their distinct voice, showcasing the breadth of Brighton's musical tapestry.

The Brighton Compilation not only celebrates the city's vibrant indie music scene but also contributes to the betterment of its community. Crafting Room Recordings has curated a collection that captures the essence of the city's sonic diversity, making it a must-listen for music enthusiasts seeking fresh sounds and meaningful impact.
