Enigmatic Brighton Band The New Eves Unveil Stirring New Single 'Astrolabe'

Here is a band that we think is great and will no doubt be much larger further down the line. If you're a regular reader, you can say you heard about The New Eves here first when they inevitably blow up.

Brighton's mysterious musical outfit, The New Eves share what might be their best single yet 'Astrolabe' released today via Broadside Hacks Recordings/Slow Dance Records. The single, which arrives just in time for the band's highly anticipated debut at SXSW later this month, will captivate listeners showcasing The New Eves signature fusion of folk, punk-rock, and 60s garage vibes.

Recorded in the historic confines of Bristol's Cotham Parish Church last autumn, 'Astrolabe' transports listeners on a journey through time and space, sowing together elements of ancient folklore and modern romance. Drawing inspiration from love stories spanning centuries, from the medieval tale of Heloise and Abelard to the infamous partnership of Bonnie and Clyde, The New Eves share something that feels both timeless and contemporary.

Vocalist and cellist Nina Winder-Lind, along with bandmates Kate Mager, Ella Oona Russell/Anona, and Violet Farrer, infuse the track with a raw energy that is both invigorating and haunting. With soul-stirring vocal chants and drum-crashing choruses, 'Astrolabe' showcases the band's mastery of their craft and their ability to evoke emotions that resonate deeply with audiences.

As the band explains:

“Drawing inspiration from lovers across the centuries; from the love letters between Heloise and Abelard in medieval France to Bonnie and Clyde's romantic partnership in crime in 1930s America, the New Eves bring you something that feels both modern and ancient. The songs’ refrain, ‘Many are the stars I see, but in my eyes no star like thee’ can be found on a 17th golden ‘poesy’ ring that is housed in the British museum, once given as a love token. The line embodies the feeling of the song, of a love that is both fated and cosmic.”

We confidently herald that The New Eves are an act destined for substantial recognition in the foreseeable future.
